service learning meets tradition & culture
Doing Good Well is a service-learning and civic engagement program designed to help participants learn about community, culture, tradition, and civic engagement. By pairing student learning with community work, Doing Good Well builds young people’s capacity for civic engagement and fosters connections across lines of class, race, gender, and other dimensions of identity.
This website serves as a portal to Doing Good Well and is intended for educators and program leaders who wish to do good - on their own and with their students and program participants. In service learning settings we ask people to step back from their service and their learning and to reflect upon their experiences but we, the teachers and leaders of these programs often forget to do that ourselves. In the world of Doing Good Well we take that reflection one step further to really seek out what the service learning work teaches us about our community and our selves and how we interface with communities of faith, culture, and tradition that differ from our own.
Please spend some time with the DGW Blog to read and respond to the reflective prompts there. You can share your thoughts publicly on the blog or keep your thoughts recorded in your own journal or note taking system.
